Don't Get Stumped!

Christmas is coming and there is always a mile long list of people you want (or feel obligated) to give goodies to...
Here are some solutions...
There are tons of things that you can get for cheap or free by couponing... I was able to get these Nivea lip glosses for 49 cents each (saved $13). These are a great gift goodies or stocking suffers.
There are cake mixes and cookie mixes that you can give away.... for a cute idea for homemade cookies in a can click HERE (one of my favorite idea blogs).
I know there is also a coupon in the SS for cuties (the clementine tangerines). If everyone gave me those for Christmas I'd be happy! I could eat the whole bag in a day!
I thummed through my coupon inserts the other day to see if there was any extra things that I could use for holiday gift ideas! You might be surprized!
Another thought is that everyone is asking for canned goods during the season... It's a good time to check your stash and give a little where you have a lot (you might notice you won't use some cans before they expire).
If anyone else has good gift ideas that are cheap let us know! We'd love to hear them!
Happy Saving during the Holiday Season!

It's a Rush!

For those of you that are avid couponers know exactly what it's like when you reach the check out line and watch the person in front of you spend 100's of dollars on their few items and then you with your full cart of groceries watch as the total goes from 100's to nothing! It is a RUSH! There is nothing like it! Whenever we tell people that we spend 100 dollars a month on food, toiletries, diapers/wipes, makeup, cleaning supplies, shampoo/conditioner, soaps... etc they can't believe it! (Especially because we don't live off of Hamburger Helper and Macaroni & Cheese!)

Yea for great deals, saving money and getting a rush!

Good News for Albuquerque!

I just got back from visiting my sister in Albuquerque NM and found out some good news for those of you that live there!

We found that the link for Arizona's Albertsons is the closest to Albuquerque's Ads prices. We found 2 or 3 things (like meat/produce) that were 10-20 cent difference but everything else was the same!
We also found that the Southern Nevada's Smiths link is the same as well.
Why is this good news?
The headache of couponing comes from finding the right coupons and matching them to the in store ads. Grocery Smarts does all the dirty work for you.
Try it out! On the right side is a list of the places that Grocery Smarts is available!
1. Click on a city/state, then click on which store you'd like to shop at.
2. At the top right corner of the grocery list you selected click start (this highlights the pg for you).
3. Now you can click on items you want/need (they will turn white). When you are done go back to the top corner and click shrink. You should only see the things that you clicked on!
4. At the top right corner you can click print and now you have the shoping list!

Great deals are waiting for you!

She got Box of diapers for $10

Wipeums FREE

Brownie mix 25 cents

Evap. Milk 20 cents

5lb bag flour $1

Frozen veggies FREE

Yogurt (4pk) 88 cents

Granola bars 90 cents

Tissues FREE

Couponing 101 Hint D

* COLLECT 1 SET OF COUPON INSERTS PER CONSUMER IN YOUR HOME

In my opinion, this is the “real” trick to saving loads of money with coupons. I figure that if I am (1) watching the sales (2) buying enough to last my family about 12 weeks and (3) using coupons already, why not have additional sets of coupons to allow me additional saving power when I am stocking up? To achieve this level of savings, I currently get 1 Sunday paper delivered each week for each person in my family. AND, by simply buying everything based on our family’s 12 week need with multiple sets of coupons, I’ve built up a 3 to 4 month supply of food/personal/health care/household products for our home for way, way less! :)
****Don’t overpay for the paper! I can get you exclusive discounted rates for the Sunday ONLY edition! Call me for more info or to order!

DEALS LIKE CRAZY

So this week there are some killer deals at Walgreens and Target... You can access the Walgreens Grocery Smarts list for Texas HERE (it is the Arizona list) and for Utah HERE

Now for Target:

The Gillette Fusion Power is on sale but you get a better deal at Walgreens

BUT if you need a shaver for women The Venus Breeze is on sale for $7.49
If you buy 2 you get a $5 gift card and you can add the coupon in PG 9/27 for $2/1
So that makes your Shaver $2.99 It isn't a 5 star deal but it is better than $7.94 That is for sure!

Vaseline body lotion is on sale for $5 each if you buy 2 you get a $5 gift card... Then add the RP 10/18 for $1/1 coupon and you'll get your lotion for $1.50 ea.

Make sure you have a coupon for each product to get them at these prices!

Couponing 101 Hint C

* UNDERSTAND THE “RIGHT WAY” TO USE A COUPON

Did you know there is a right way and a wrong way to use a coupon? In order to get maximum value and savings from using a coupon, I always use it on an item that is also on sale! Even better is when I can use a coupon on an item that has hit the lowest sale price during the store’s ad cycle. How do I know when the sale price is a good price or at its lowest? Keep reading…

* USE MY “5 MINUTE” COUPON ORGANIZATION METHOD

Before you can save money using coupons, you must first learn how to properly organize them. Toss everything out the window that you think about clipping and collecting coupons, because there is a new, incredibly efficient way to organize your coupons that will literally take you less than 5 minutes per week. It’s simple – just collect coupon inserts from the Sunday paper and your weekly junk mail and store them in a 3-ring binder or file box (whole and uncut, inside sheet protectors) in chronological order based on the date.

· (SS) Smart Source comes in the Sunday paper.
· (PG) Proctor/Gamble inserts comes in the Sunday paper once a month. (usually the first of the month)
· (RP) Red Plum comes in the Sunday paper & sometimes you might get it in your junk mail (on Tuesday or Wednesday).
· Label the front cover of all inserts with the Sunday’s date. The date is also found in tiny print on the spine of the insert.
· Don’t waste time looking through the inserts. Why? By flipping through them you’ll inevitably find coupons you’ll be tempted to clip and use at the wrong time! Remember, we are going to use our coupons on sale items to maximize our savings!

Couponing 101 Hint B

* BUY ENOUGH TO LAST

When the food and products my family consumes go on sale I buy enough to last until it is likely to go on sale again. This is why understanding store ad cycles is so important. How do I know how much to buy? In general, I buy one unit per consumer in my household. This “magic” number is different for each family (depending on how many family members you have living in your home) but serves as a basic guide to determine how much of a particular item I need to purchase in order to last my family about 12 weeks. This way, when we run out of the food & products we consume… instead of heading to the store (where it’s unlikely to be on sale again), I just hit my pantry! This is also commonly referred to as “stock piling” or stocking up. This will increase your savings dramatically over time.

Couponing 101 Hint A

I thought since there are quite a few of us that aren't in Utah, or somewhere Grocery Smarts is established, I would blog How to Coupon 101 taken from the handouts I give at my classes. So feel free to put your imput for those that have something to add and ask your questions if you have any. We'll do one at a time so we don't get questions or comments about a million different things.

1. UNDERSTAND HOW THE GROCERY STORE WORKS

All grocery/pharmacy stores work on the same basic marketing principles. Generally speaking, ads run on a 12-week ad cycle. During that cycle, not every item, but every type of item will go on sale at least once. When it does go on sale for its “cyclical” low, that’s when it’s time to buy. Simply buying items when they are on sale will begin your quest for saving money at the grocery store.

For those not blessed with Grocery Smarts I would start getting your grocery ads and save them for 12 weeks and see if you can recognize the cycle and be able to anticipate what will be on sell.

These handouts I give at class are provided by Colette who is over Grocery Smarts in Nevada. She is amazing!! click HERE for her blog!

Savings in Georgia

My friends in Georgia are trying to implement the Grocery Smarts Concept, since it's not established there yet, and they have had great success!!! I think many of you will be able to identify with their experience!
"We got all this for $23! It was a 66% savings! I am so proud of my dear wife. What was more funny is that when I got home she said, "It was a total adreneline rush!""
Thanks Britt & Tommy! Keep up the good work!

Cake Cookies

Thanks for letting me know I'm not doing this for just for my health!
I know if you're couponing and buying in bulk you might have a bunch of cake mixes but you know you won't use them before they're outdated...here is a great recipe!
1 package any cake mix
1 egg
1/4 c oil
1/4 c water
1 cup of nuts, chocolate chips, fruit etc. (if you want)
Mix first 4 ingredients and then add the last. Roll into balls and bake 350 for 15 min.
Kimberly adds a Ande's mint right when they come out and then when it's soft swirls it into a circle! (she does it with a chocolate cake mix)

Great Questions!!!

Question 1:

When the source of the coupon says Kellogg's 8/2 or something other than SS, RP or PG:

There are a couple reasons:

One is that they came in the mail as an extra insert that the Mother brand puts out but it only contains their specific coupons. The picture above is one for General Mills. The source of these coupons would be referred to as General Mills 8/2.

As for the Kellogg's 8/2 it came in the mail so if you dated it and put it in your files you've got those coupons. (sometimes they will come in the SS or RP but are referred to separately)

Seccond is that there were two smart sources that came in the newspaper on the same day. So to distinguish between which SS 8/2 one will say like in this example SS 8/2 and Sears 8/2.

Question 2:

What if I don't get Red Plum in the mail?
If you don't get RP in the mail here is a link that you can add your address to the mailing list!

Thanks for your great questions Kimberly!

Smiths this week...

I recieved an email from Jennifer about this weeks smiths ad:
"I was thinking what a great time to stock up on (even more) cereal at Smiths. The grocerysmarts website says that the boxes of Kelloggs will be .50 each but according to the store ad the least it could cost is $1 per box. FYI"

Anyone have extra hints or ideas let us all know!
Thanks Jennifer

Jennifer's DEAL!!!

I went to Albertsons last night and this is what I got, in 5 separate transactions.
I ended up paying a total of $83.03 and saved $262.38. I still have another $15 of in store $ toward my next purchase. The single best transaction was 20 boxes of cereal for $12.40. Check out the picture. I realized later that I forgot to put two bags of carrots and another box of Chex bars (since my kids broke into them at the store)

P&G eSaver Coupons

You might have noticed this week and last week on the grocery lists there were "esaver coupons" well let me teach you a little about them...

1. You register your Smiths Preferred Customer Card at www.pgesaver.com

2. Then you can click on coupons that you want and they will download onto your card. (you can't download multiples of the same coupon)

3. You go to the store check out and automatically when you swipe your card it will count those coupons when you buy the items that relate to them.

4. Let's say I buy 3 Shampoos and I have 3 clipped coupons for those shampoos... The esaver coupon that is for the same shampoo will add on without me buying a 4th shampoo
Don't ask me why.... I just know it works!

So make sure you register your card and get to smiths for all the great deals on the P&G items!!

Albertsons Double Coupons

There are 3 Albertsons Double Coupons in your 7/12 Red Plum!!! If you are getting multiple coupon inserts then you get multiple double coupons!!!!!

Cut them out and put them in your plastic insert and use them every time you go to Albertsons.

Double Coupons match any coupon you have (up to $1)!!

If there is something you need but it's not on sale here's a good time to use your double coupon! Or use it on something already on sale for an even better deal!

Be careful though... remember that Albertsons has higher prices so you might get a better deal using your manufactures coupon somewhere else.

Maceys and Digital Coupons

I just got off the phone with the West Jordan Macey's store. I talked to Stacy Bosen and she said that they are recently trying to take ALL DIGITAL coupons. They used to not take any because they have had problems with fraud coupons (ones that are copied and ones that are created by fraudulent sites). I told her the other day they scanned my digital coupon and it beeped and they said they wouldn't take it. She said if it beeps they should just enter it in. She said that their manager (over that) Mike Tippets says they are taking all digital coupons now!
I did call the Tooele Maceys and they said they do not take ANY digital coupons!
So I hope that this helps you out! If you run through the check out and they don't take your coupons then leave the whole pile there and say sorry!!! How else will they realize they are loosing customers because they don't take coupons!! (Then you can go back and buy the stuff you can w/out digital coupons) But at the West Jordan Maceys you should have no problems! If you do drop a few names like Stacy and Mike!
Good luck to you couponers and I hope you are having success!
